About NTA UGC NET

The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility of Indian citizens for the eligibility of the assistant chair, junior research scholarship or both, for universities and colleges university students from India.

As of June 2018, CBSE conducted the NET on 84 subjects in 91 cities across the country. Thereafter, as of December 2018, the UGC-NET is in charge of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The award of a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and / or the eligibility for the assistant professorship depends on the candidate's aggregate performance in UGC-NET Paper-I and Paper-II. Candidates who qualify only for the assistant professorship will not be considered for the JRF award. Candidates who qualify for the assistant professorship eligibility test are governed by the rules and regulations for the hiring of assistant professors from interested universities / colleges / state governments, as the case may be.

UGC-NET is held twice a year. Due to the postponement of the December 2020 UGC-NET in light of COVID-19, the June 2021 UGC-NET schedule has been delayed. To regularize the UGC-NET exam cycles, the National Testing Agency (NTA), with the concurrence of UGC, has merged the UGC-NET cycles of December 2020 and June 2021 so that they are carried out together in CBT mode. Therefore, the application process will be reopened for new applicants to complete and submit their forms.
