About BVFCL Namrup

The Namrup Fertilizer Complex was renamed Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited after the fork of Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Limited from 04/01/02. It is located on the bank of the Dilli River on the southwestern border of the Dibrugarh district in Assam. It is the first factory in India to use natural gas as a basic raw material for the production of nitrogen fertilizers.

Until the 1960s, Namrup was not known in the rest of the country. The discovery of oil and natural gas in the Naharkatiya region prompted serious reflection on the proper use of gas. That it had to be another way for it to turn on.

On the recommendation of US M / S Snodgrass Associates, they suggested utilizing this hidden gem and suggested producing a host of utilities, including chemical fertilizers and electricity. the then Ministry of Mines and Fuels appointed a Committee. Headed by Shri S S Khera, ICS and based on his broad recommendation regarding the possible use of natural gas, a Technical Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. G P Kane further studied the possibilities of establishing a fertilizer plant in Assam. while the Central Commission for Water and Energy was entrusted to explore the scope of creating an energy project based on this resource.

After conducting a detailed techno-economic study, the Kane Committee recommended that a fertilizer factory be located in Namrup. It goes without saying that the Central Water and Energy Commission also favorably recommended the installation of a thermal power plant within walking distance of the fertilizer factory in Namrup.
