Prayas through its inclusive, self-sustaining and integrated community-based model that encompasses components of child protection and juvenile justice, education, vocational training, promotion of livelihoods and microfinance, self-help groups (SHG), economic empowerment for youth and women leading to financial inclusion. that creates opportunities for the marginalized and disadvantaged sector of the population to lead a dignified life. The holistic and integrated approach makes the Prayas model quite innovative.

Prayas' birth was accidental in nature, having been born in 1988 in a disaster situation when a devastating fire broke out in Jahangirpuri, one of Delhi's largest resettlement slums, destroying thousands of families who lost their homes and their livelihoods.

The most affected were the children who were absolutely traumatized and shocked. His immediate efforts were to restore normalcy in their lives and rehabilitate them. Recognizing the need to reorganize and rebuild the lives of these children along with the serious problems of missing and found children in the care of Amod Kanth as Dy. Delhi Police Commissioner, the Prayas Youth Aid Center was established in 1988 by the Delhi Police. Soon, a collaboration was forged between the Delhi Police School of Social Work (DU) and Shramik Vidyapeeth, Ministry of HRD, GOI and Society (N0.20261) was recorded in 1989. The journey that started with 25 children In 1988, Prayas is now directly serving some 40,000 marginalized children, youth and women.

The organization has been addressing multiple issues and running direct programs related to child protection and juvenile justice, education, urban homelessness, human trafficking and migration, disaster and crisis management, vocational training programs and life skills for domestic workers, the homeless, water and sanitation. , health and hygiene, empowerment of women through Self-Help Groups (SHG), Income Generation Program, promotion of entrepreneurship, credit facilitation through banking links and also direct microfinance operations.

"Prayas JAC Society" has been working on child rights and protection issues since 1988. Prayas JAC Society currently manages more than 150 centers / units, including 38 homes / shelters for children and the homeless, declared as 'Eligible Institutions' under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) of Children Act 2000/2006 / 2015 for children in need of Care and Protection (CNCP) and Children in conflict with the law (CCL). It is also reaching distressed children on the railroads through multiple programs including helplines and shelters.

Prayas also has the number 06 of the Childline 1098 emergency helpline, help desks and several shelters to ensure immediate relief, care and protection of children. Directly accessing almost 40,000 lives every day through its multiple programs, such as Child Protection, Juvenile Justice, Prevention of Human Trafficking and Child Labor / Labor Serfdom and Modern Slavery and other forms of exploitation, providing support through Education, Vocational and Life. Skill Program, Health, etc. with presence in 10 states / UT (Delhi, Bihar, Assam, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Kashmir and Haryana) and more than 600 professionals.
